Emory Douglas: Black Panther
Talkin' 'bout a revolution? Look no further than the New Museum's Emory Douglas: Blank Panther exhibit. As the minister of culture for the Black Panther Party, Douglas created art that became a symbol of the Black Panthers and the civil rights movement as a whole. His famously graphic posters and prints from 1967 to 1976 are on display at the museum and are free to view with the price of admission ($12 for adults, with discounts for seniors and students; free for kids under 18 and museum members). Make your way downtown after work on Friday whether you have summer-Friday hours or not—the New Museum stays open until 9pm.

Burk Uzzle: Woodstock: 40th Anniversary
Always wish you'd made it to Woodstock? Now you can experience it four decades later (minus the mud) through the eyes of a photographer who was there. The Laurence Miller Gallery is getting in on the nationwide celebration of the music festival's 40th anniversary with a collection of work from Burk Uzzle, whose lens captured the spirit of the times with stills of hippies, music lovers and revelers in general. Throw on a tie-dye T-shirt and throw up a peace sign as you head to the gallery to relive the era of the flower child. (A note if you have a child of your own: this exhibition contains nudity.)

John Lennon: The New York City Years
As John Lennon once said of New York City, "This is where the action is." The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex NYC is now offering a snapshot of his New York experience through this exciting exhibit. Head to SoHo this Saturday to explore never-before-displayed Lennon memorabilia—from his iconic New York City T-shirt to his famous Fender Telecaster guitar (used in 1974 during his performance with Elton John at Madison Square Garden). John Lennon: The New York City Years is a must-see for fans of the Beatles and Lennon. Price of admission for adults is $24.50; discounts are available for kids, students, seniors and those in the military.

In & Out of Amsterdam: Travels in Conceptual Art 1960-1976
Amsterdam was a beloved destination for art enthusiasts in the '60s and '70s, and now on display at the Museum of Modern Art are approximately 75 works from artists of various backgrounds from that era, all dealing with travel and the Dutch city. It's fitting to visit the exhibition this year, which marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's arrival in New York; the show highlights a cross section of Dutch and American culture. (For more information on the celebration, visit our NY400 page.) Installations, films, drawings, posters and other works from artists like Ger van Elk, Sol LeWitt and Bas Jan Ader are in store. Admission to In & Out of Amsterdam is $20; discounts are available for seniors and students, and children and museum members are free.
