Area: 59 square miles
Population: 487,000+
Travel Time From Times Square: 30 minutes

The Staten Island experience begins with a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry, which offers breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty, downtown Manhattan and New York Harbor. The fun continues after arriving in Staten Island, as you navigate the borough by foot, bus or Staten Island Railway (part of the City's public-transit system). First, stroll St. George, taking in sweeping vistas and historic architecture. If it's a game day, cheer on the Staten Island Yankees, who call the neighborhood home. Then dine at a local café and hop on the S40 bus to Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, also home to the Staten Island Children's Museum. Or walk to Little Sri Lanka, just 15 minutes from the ferry terminal, for authentic dosas and curries. The island is a must for history buffs, too: the St. George Theatre recently celebrated 80 years of entertainment in 2009, while Historic Richmond Town—a 100-plus-acre living museum with a working farm and homes—exudes old-time charm and connects visitors to the City's past.

To help you navigate the borough, see our list of must-visit locations, below.

Little Sri Lanka: Dine on mouthwatering (and spicy) cuisine, shop at exotic grocers and pick up some sweets for the free ferry ride home from Staten Island.
St. George: Discover great art, architecture and other hidden gems just beyond the ferry terminal on Staten Island.

Remember to check back for updates, as our team continues to search the borough for the best Staten Island has to offer. For more information, visit statenislandusa.com.
