There are literally hundreds of reasons why the Bronx Zoo and the New York Aquarium have earned their status as iconic, must-see destinations in New York City: with more than 600 species of wildlife spread out over hundreds of acres, the Bronx Zoo is one of the world's largest urban zoos, while the New York Aquarium—the oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States—houses 350-plus species of aquatic wildlife just steps from the Atlantic Ocean. To enrich your visits to both attractions, NYC & Company has named the Bronx Zoo and the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn its Culture Spots for September. All month long, get 20% off a Total Experience ticket at each of these Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) attractions.
The beauty and awe of the Bronx Zoo lies in its expansiveness and diversity, making each visit a new adventure. Choose your path through 265 acres of wooded parkland, much of it mimicking natural habitats, and you'll be eye to eye with a sleek snow leopard in one direction and with grazing giraffes in another. Creep up close to a slumbering red panda and be awed by a black-and-white tapir. Take a ride on the monorail—or even a camel—but remember to keep your eyes peeled, or you might just miss that white rhino or galloping gazelle. The zoo's newest exhibit is Madagascar!, featuring popular wide-eyed lemurs and scary Nile crocodiles.
A Total Experience ticket will enhance your visit by offering unlimited access to special rides and attractions, including the 4-D Theater, the Children's Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest, JungleWorld, the Zoo Shuttle and Wild Asia Monorail. The last weekend in September brings a favorite New York Halloween tradition called Boo at the Zoo, featuring a Haunted Safari Adventure, a hayride through Creepy Hollows and other fun activities for the whole family.
The New York Aquarium, located just off the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn, is filled with exotic fish and other extraordinary sea creatures. Enter the floor-to-ceiling glass shark tank for a close (but safe) encounter with sharks, sea turtles and stingrays. Admire the aquatic agility of the sea lions and marvel at the endangered black-footed penguins. The interactive A-MAZE-ING Water exhibit, open through September 9, includes a 1,500-square-foot maze that educates the public about water-conservation efforts.
In keeping with the spirit of the WCS, which seeks to protect and save wildlife around the world, a Total Experience ticket at the aquarium provides access to the Happy Feet 4-D Experience, a short film starring Mumble the penguin, who sets out to save his colony of emperor penguins.
The savings on a Total Experience ticket is valid September 1–30, 2012. To take advantage of this limited-time offer, present the discount coupon at the ticket booths of the Bronx Zoo or the New York Aquarium. Download the coupon via the link above; the coupon will also be available through September at the Official NYC Information Centers in Midtown, Harlem and the Times Square Alliance and at the Official NYC Information Kiosks in Chinatown and at City Hall. The savings is subject to availability and may not be combined with any other offer, discount or promotion. Other restrictions may apply.
