This month, cool off in a special sea setting in Coney Island at the New York Aquarium, the oldest continually operating aquarium in the nation. A 14-acre home to more than 350 species of aquatic wildlife, the aquarium has been named NYC & Company's Culture Spot for the month of August. In honor of this designation, New York Aquarium will offer a 20% discount on its Total Experience ticket throughout August. And this month, there's plenty for visitors to feast their eyes on.
For starters, it's always Shark Week at the aquarium. Get up close (but not too personal) to a floor-to-ceiling tank, where you can see reef sharks, nurse sharks and sand tiger sharks, along with stingrays and sea turtles.
Next, check out Alien Stingers, an exhibition that features moon jellies, red-striped sea nettles and flower hat jellies. Via touch screens, you can learn about each and play jelly games (without any painful consequences).
End your day with some serenading by the aquarium's sea lions in a circus-like performance. Watch the affable animals dance, dive and give kisses with their trainers in an interactive, musical demonstration.
The savings on admission at the New York Aquarium is valid August 1–31, 2011. To receive the discount, visitors must use a special promotion code (CULTURESPOT) when purchasing tickets online. Download the discount coupon via the link above; the coupon will also be available during the entire month of August at the Official NYC Information Centers in Midtown, Harlem and the Times Square Alliance and at the Official NYC Information Kiosks in Chinatown and at City Hall. The savings is subject to availability and may not be combined with any other offer, discount or promotion. The discount is not valid toward group packages, and there is a limit of one coupon per person. Other restrictions may apply.
