The best players in the National and American Leagues are coming to Citi Field for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 16. This marks the first time the Midsummer Classic has come to New York City since 2008, when the old Yankee Stadium hosted. It's been longer still since the game's been played at the Mets' home park—the Senior Circuit prevailed at Shea in 1964, the year the dearly departed stadium first opened its gates. The 2013 game itself marks the climax to five days of All-Star events, detailed below.

All-Star FanFest
July 12–16, Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
At this interactive baseball playground, fans can meet stars of baseball past, get autographs, gawk at mascots, take batting practice, make over-the-wall catches and otherwise immerse themselves in America's pastime. For tickets, visit mlb.com.

All-Star 5K & Fun Run
July 13, Prospect Park
Proceeds from this 5K race (and accompanying 1.5-mile relaxed jog) through Prospect Park will support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. For more information, including how to register, visit allstarrun.nyrr.com.

All-Star Charity Concert
July 13, Central Park
The New York Philharmonic and pop star Mariah Carey perform on the Great Lawn. The event is free, but tickets are required. For more information, visit allstargame.com.

All-Star Sunday (with Legends & Celebrity Softball Game and Futures Game)
July 14, Citi Field
In the Legends & Celebrity Softball Game, baseball greats from days gone by take the field with famous folk. Former Mets Darryl Strawberry, John Franco and Doc Gooden promise to imbue the event with local flavor. Other ballplayer participants include Frank Thomas and Ozzie Smith; the celebrity roster has yet to be announced. The Futures Game, naturally, showcases up-and-coming minor leaguers who just may be All-Stars in the years to come. In years past, Alfonso Soriano, Troy Tulowitzki, Mike Trout and David Wright have been among the young talents to participate. For tickets, visit mlb.com.

All-Star Workout Day (with Home Run Derby)
July 15, Citi Field
The highlight of the July 15 festivities is the Home Run Derby, during which sluggers swing exclusively for the fences. David Wright of the Mets and Robinson Cano of the Yankees will captain the National and American League squads, choosing their own teammates from among their circuits' leading power hitters. For tickets, visit mlb.com.

All-Star Game
July 16, Citi Field
It's the big one, where the top players in the majors square off. The atmosphere suggests that this is more of an "event" than a game, with flashbulbs going off and almost everyone on the rosters getting a chance to play, but the winner's league does get home field advantage in the World Series. After a long stretch of American League domination, the National League is riding a three-game winning streak. For tickets, visit mlb.com.
