Due to Hurricane Sandy, many events have been canceled or rescheduled. Please call ahead to confirm the status before attending any of the events in the following article.

Thanksgiving in New York City is magical. On top of the usual turkey, Tofurkey and pumpkin-flavored everything, there's nothing quite like the leaves crunching beneath your feet as you stroll down the sidewalk, cup of hot cider in hand, en route to can't-miss attractions like the City's ice-skating rinks, the holiday markets in Bryant Park and Union Square (among others), and the annual giant-balloon inflation the night before the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And in the days before and after Turkey Day, NYC offers a veritable smorgasbord of entertaining options—including cultural and educational programs, comedy shows and professional sports games. Below, find our picks for events that will add the proverbial whipped cream to your holiday slice of pumpkin pie.

November 19–25
Âs Nutayuneân/We Still Live Here at National Museum of the American Indian
The week of Thanksgiving, the institution has scheduled daily screenings of Âs Nutayuneân, a documentary about efforts to maintain and celebrate the cultural and linguistic heritage of New England Native American tribes. For more information, visit nmai.si.edu.

November 21 and 23–24
Tracy Morgan at Carolines on Broadway
Burn some pre-feast calories through laughter with the unpredictable star of 30 Rock. Morgan performs seven holiday sets over three nights on comedy’s most prestigious stand-up stage. The comedian recently starred in the film Why Stop Now, and 30 Rock is in its final season. For more information, visit carolines.com

November 22
New York Jets vs. New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium
Thanksgiving means football. What better way to digest thousands of calories of stuffing than by watching round two of the 2012 Good-Lookin' Bowl? The game pits Mark "Mr. Handsome" Sanchez (with backup and fellow GQ cover boy Tim Tebow) against Tom "Bieber Hair" Brady. Which glamorous quarterback will lead his team to victory in a crucial divisional matchup? If you'd like to find out in person, visit ticketmaster.com or stubhub.com

November 23
Day After Thanksgiving Special! Cross-Park Promenade at Central Park
It is essential after a Thanksgiving feast to get some movement back in your limbs. This scenic stroll through the park provides some gentle physical exertion to ease you back into productive life. Highlights of the tour include miniature boats, sculptures and a secret bench. For more information, visit nyc.gov/parks.

November 23
Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Clippers at Barclays Center
With a state-of-the-art arena and a new team, the entire city is getting an early gift for the holidays. See if the Nets’ Deron Williams and Joe Johnson can bring home another holiday treat with a win over Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and the resurgent Clippers. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com.

November 24
The Frozen Apple: Cornell vs. Michigan (Hockey) at Madison Square Garden
Prominent college-hockey programs—who battled each other in last year's NCAA tournament—face off at Madison Square Garden on Thanksgiving weekend. Don't be surprised if the decibel level rivals that of a Rangers game. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com.

November 25
Winter on a Flatbush Farm at Lefferts Historic House
Kids get to welcome an authentic Dutch winter on the Vlacke bos (the original Dutch name for Flatbush, meaning “flat woodland” or “wooded plain”). Crafts and activities include traditional winter preparations like making candles, preserving food, cooking traditional Dutch treats (from a Lefferts family recipe) and meeting St. Nicholas.
