Due to Hurricane Sandy, many events have been canceled or rescheduled. Please call ahead to confirm the status before attending any of the events in the following article.

Thanksgiving in New York City is magical. On top of the usual turkey, Tofurkey and pumpkin-flavored everything, there's nothing quite like the leaves crunching beneath your feet as you stroll down the sidewalk, cup of hot cider in hand, en route to can't-miss attractions like the City's ice-skating rinks, the holiday markets in Bryant Park and Union Square (among others), and the annual giant-balloon inflation the night before the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And in the days before and after Turkey Day, NYC offers a veritable smorgasbord of entertaining options—including cultural and educational programs, comedy shows and professional sports games. Below, find our picks for events that will add the proverbial whipped cream to your holiday slice of pumpkin pie.

November 22
New York Jets vs. New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium
Thanksgiving means football. What better way to digest thousands of calories of stuffing than by watching round two of the 2012 Good-Lookin' Bowl? The game pits Mark "Mr. Handsome" Sanchez (with backup and fellow GQ cover boy Tim Tebow) against Tom "Bieber Hair" Brady. Which glamorous quarterback will lead his team to victory in a crucial divisional matchup? If you'd like to find out in person, visit or

November 23
Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Clippers at Barclays Center

The Frozen Apple: Cornell vs. Michigan (Hockey) at Madison Square Garden
