In The Last Airbender, the Earth, Air, Fire and Water Nations are tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a war against the others. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. This live-action feature film, based on the hugely successful animated Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, opens in theaters on July 2 and is the first chapter in Aang’s struggle to survive. In order to celebrate the opening of The Last Airbender, there will be martial arts demonstrations at select events around New York City, as well as film-related giveaways and promotions. At the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, advanced-screening tickets will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, and beginning at 1pm, event-goers will be able to enter for a chance to win tickets for the movie’s red-carpet premiere by playing the video game Avatar: The Last Airbender. Also, fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character at the event at The Field House at Chelsea Piers for a chance to win tickets to the movie’s red-carpet premiere; there will be advanced-screening ticket giveaways and recreational activities to participate in as well. The first 50 people to sign-up to participate in the Chelsea Piers costume contest will receive advanced screening passes. The Grand Prize winner will receive $150 and four tickets to the film’s world premiere on June 30; second and third runners-up will receive $100 and $50 respectively.
