One of the world's largest metropolitan zoos, the Bronx Zoo is home to more than 6,000 animals on 265 acres—here, you can visit African Plains, Himalayan Highlands and Madagascar, and gawk at such exotic animals as African wild dogs, snow leopards and ring-tailed lemurs. Other highlights include a "4-D" theater (the current feature is Rio: The 4-D Experience) with 3-D visuals and "sensory effects" that constitute the titular fourth dimension, a carousel with larger-than-life bugs, camel rides, penguin and sea lion feedings, and the Wild Asia Monorail. The New York Aquarium, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Zoo and Staten Island Zoo are also all well worth visiting; for details on what each has to offer, peruse our Zoos and Aquariums slideshow.
