  • The New-York Historical Society
New York City has a long and storied past, and what better place to learn about it than at its oldest museum? Here, NYC's early years are explored through photographs, exhibitions and collections, all dedicated to the City's rich and multifaceted past. One upcoming exhibition, Bill Cunningham: Facades (March 14–June 15), is a testament to old New York City style. Cunningham's impromptu fashion shots, which graced the pages of the Chicago TribuneWomen's Wear Daily and The New York Times, were influential long before fashion blogging was a blip on fashion's radar. Facades is an exhibition of Cunningham's eight-year-long photo-essay work (also titled Facades), which includes photographs of models dressed in period costumes set against historic architectural backdrops. Another showcase, The Black Fives (March 14–July 20), documents African-American basketball teams that flourished in the years before the NBA's racial integration, which took place in 1950.
