The Museum of Chinese in America stands proud in its new space on Centre Street, artfully designed by Chinese-American architect and artist Maya Lin. Using reclaimed wood and other eco-friendly materials, she juxtaposed the historic building's original character with sleek modern concepts. The museum is a fascinating destination for all interested in the history and continuing story of the Chinese diaspora in America. For Chinese immigrants and their descendents, the institution fosters the camaraderie of shared experiences, but people of all backgrounds will appreciate its contents. Visitors can learn about Chinese-American history through the museum's permanent collection, exhibitions, events and various presentations manifested in the architecture itself, like the bronze-tile Journey Wall and the glass-panel video portraits. In March, don't miss Here & Now: Chinese Artists in NYC—Chapter III: Towards Transculturalism, the third part of an exhibition series that explores Chinese artists' reinvention of culture through various mediums. Or stop by for one of the museum's many interactive events, including a March 18 screening of a documentary about the groundbreaking Chinese-American actress Anna May Wong and a March 20 panel discussion on the Here & Now exhibition.

In honor of its designation as this month's Culture Spot, the Museum of Chinese in America will offer 20% off museum shop purchases March 1–31, 2010. Coupons will be available the entire month of March at the following locations: Official NYC Information Center–Midtown, Official NYC Information Center–Harlem, Official NYC Information Center–Times Square Alliance, Official NYC Information Center–Federal Hall, Official NYC Information Kiosk–City Hall and Official NYC Information Kiosk–Chinatown.
