If the work of this artist from Trinidad recalls the paintings of the island’s most famous art-world resident—Peter Doig—that’s probably because they know each other. Lovelace’s oil-on-panel compositions are less dreamy and more aggressively Expressionistic than Doig’s and tend to focus more on human bodies in action—like couples having sex, for example.
