Museum of the City of New York
1220 Fifth Ave. (5 Av/103 St)
Manhattan, NY 10029
The Museum of the City of New York is mounting the first-ever exhibition of works from Martin Wong's unparalleled collection of street art. Wong, who worked at the art supply store Pearl Paint, befriended a number of graffiti artists and became an early buyer of their works. He donated his entire collection to the museum in 1994. The show highlights the role of street art as a tool of self-expression and traces its history as a cultural phenomenon. Artists featured include Keith Haring, Lee Quinones, Lady Pink and Futura 2000, among others. For more information, visit mcny.org.
