In the Wake: Japanese Photographers Respond to 3/11 explores what was lost & what still remains following the earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima disaster of 2011 that claimed 18,000 lives and displaced nearly half a million individuals. Among the highlights of the exhibition is a series of before and after photos of tsunami-ravaged villages taken by master photographer Naoya Hatakeyama whose mother lost her life in the tsunami.

In addition to the materials included when this exhibit made its debut at the MFA in Boston in 2015, Japan Society's presentation includes Lost & Found, which highlights the thousands of personal photos that were recovered from the disaster areas and, in some cases, returned to their owners.
