New York City’s first-ever large-scale public AIDS memorial opens this fall in the West Village. The memorial features an 18-foot steel canopy set atop the new St. Vincent’s Hospital Park. Under the canopy there are granite pavers—designed by artist Jenny Holzer—with words from the Walt Whitman poem “Song of Myself” engraved on them, benches along the interior and a water feature at the center. The public dedication takes place at 11am on December 1.
