Rembrandt's First Masterpiece

The Morgan Library & Museum
225 Madison Ave.
Manhattan, NY 10016

At just 23 years old, Dutch painter Rembrandt completed what is widely considered to be his first masterpiece—Judas Returning the Thirty Pieces of Silver, which depicts a scene from the New Testament in which Judas returns his payment for betraying Jesus out of remorse. The Morgan will also be displaying some of the artist's sketches and drawings that led to this painting being created, giving the public a glimpse into his process. The painting is being shown in the United States for the first time ever, after having been part of a private collection in Britain for many years. For more information, visit themorgan.org.
