The United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing, better known as the Shakers, are best known for the simplicity of their apparel, furniture and architecture. Simple Gifts focuses on The Met's collection of Shaker furniture and textiles and explores the ongoing impact of the Shakers on modern design and performance.  The exhibit is accompanied by a video projection of Martha Graham performing Appalachian Spring, choreographed to Aaron Copland's score.
