Trekkies from across the land will beam themselves over to the Javits Center for a weekend of costumed characters, Q&As, autograph signings and general celebration. It’s been 50 years since the original TV series debuted; five other live-action series (including one scheduled for January 2017) and a baker’s dozen of films later, Star Trek has become as familiar as any item in the pop culture pantheon. In addition to a cosplay contest, highlights will include appearances by actors from every series iteration—LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge, from Next Generation), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway, from Voyager) and even William Shatner (Star Trek’s Captain Kirk or, as nonfans may know him, the guy from the Priceline commercials) will be there. Resistance is futile. For information and tickets, visit startrekmissions.com.
