Star Wars and the Power of Costume

With the Force primed to awaken (note for the totally unaware: Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18), the Smithsonian and Lucasfilm have teamed up to bring some of the Star Wars experience off the screen and into a Times Square exhibition space. This show presents more than 70 costumes from the epic series, featuring old favorites (such as Darth Vader's samurai-influenced black mask, Chewbacca's yak-hair and mohair Wookiee suit and Queen Amidala’s gown) along with a few new ones from the latest installment. Sketches, photos, short films and interactive diversions—including one that will allow fans to virtually dress themselves in a select few of the outfits—help round out the experience.
