Set in the early ‘70s—before the passage of landmark legislation like the Violence Against Women Act—Sarah Treem’s new play explores the intersection of refuge and awakening. Cherry Jones plays Agnes, who has turned her bed-and-breakfast into an underground shelter for abused women. When a new young resident starts influencing her teenage daughter, she is forced to reexamine her attitudes about the women she is trying to help. Pam MacKinnnon (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Dinner with Friends) directs.
