It's laugh-out-loud—and belch-out-loud—shenanigans at this kid- and adult-friendly musical based on William Steig's book Shrek! (which also inspired the animated films voiced by Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy). The notion of "fairy tale" is turned on its head by a slew of colorful characters—from the Big Bad Wolf to Pinocchio—that promote the same feel-good message expressed in the movie. Whether on screen or on its elaborately decorated stage at the Broadway Theatre, Shrek proves it ain't easy being a big, stinky green ogre (but it sure is fun).
