One of the City's best-known walking-tour companies will have you gallivanting across the Brooklyn Bridge and around the Heights. Meet on the southeast corner of Broadway and Chambers Street at City Hall Park in Manhattan and navigate the crowded walk over the great span—and by all means, stay out of the bike lane as you photograph your loved ones against a backdrop of skyscrapers, lest you be (rightly) mowed down by cyclists. Once you're on the Brooklyn side, one of the company's knowledgeable guides will outline the history of the neighborhood as you stroll its leafy rows of brownstones, with stops to investigate the haunts of such litterateurs as Walt Whitman and Arthur Miller. The tour ends on the Promenade. —Peter Terzian
