Touring behind their 2009 release, How Big Can You Get? The Music of Cab Calloway, these seasoned Southern California veterans play high-energy, horn-propelled swing music and are able to yell phrases like "Go, Daddy-O!" and actually mean it. Chances are more than fair they'll pepper their December 20 set at the spacious Highline Ballroom with some holiday cheer: after all, they have not one, but two Christmas albums to draw from. The Highline is a relatively new venue that fits up to 700, with a surprisingly warm vibe and excellent sight lines throughout. If you're planning to see an act here, it makes sense to check who's playing at the nearby Hiro Ballroom, since the two venues occasionally time shows so that you can skip between them (and keep your entertainment dollar local). —Mike Errico
