  • Her Name Is Han
    17 E. 31st St., 212-779-9990, NoMad, Manhattan
While Koreatown's neon-lit main drag (West 32nd Street, aka Korea Way) is full of excitement, the enclave's most happening new spot is certainly Her Name Is Han on 31st Street. The evidence? Clusters of people are willing to wait 30 minutes on the sidewalk, even on freezing cold nights, for a table to open up. At lunch (when it’s cash-only), it's easier to stroll into this hip, soulful Korean bistro, which is named in honor of owner Kihyun Lee's mother (Lee also owns the casual Take 31 next door). The best of the restaurant's belly-warming dishes include crispy fried chicken; spicy short-neck clams with potato noodles; tender pork ribs; and braised short ribs, the meat dissolving into root vegetables. Small plates are $10 or less and large, shareable items are under $25. Another reason for the restaurant's popularity lies in its cheap drinks—just $3 for Sapporo on draft and $6 for a glass of wine or soju cocktail.
