Master chef Gabriel Kreuther mines his Alsatian heritage at this grand, classy restaurant overlooking Bryant Park. At Danny Meyer's The Modern, Kreuther's tartes flambées were a signature dish; he's resurrected them here on the lounge menu, from the classic (topped with crème fraîche, fromage blanc, onion and smoked bacon) to the opulent, spread with caviar and sea urchin. In the dining room, the four-course prix fixe is $98, highlights being langoustine tartare with flying fish roe; black truffle dumplings with sweetbreads and summer corn purée; and seared squab and foie gras croustillant, a crusty, dreamy sandwich for two. Desserts are also ethereal, such as chocolate mousse and olive-oil-moistened chocolate sponge cake with kirsch sorbet. At lunch, the two-course prix fixe is $52. Hushed acoustics and well-spaced tables make it ideal for both romance and business occasions.
