Hells Kitchen

A sparkling array of tequila and gourmet Mexican food make Tacuba an alluring choice in Hell’s Kitchen, staying open late enough (midnight on weekends) to hang out post-theater. Chef Julian Medina (Toloache, Yerba Buena) prepares a menu similar to the original Tacuba in Astoria, featuring bright ceviches and boldly flavored tacos with chili-dusted fluke, kohlrabi-habanero slaw and chipotle aioli. The guacamole is unimpeachable, even for those who don’t like cilantro (they’ll leave it out upon request. But one of the most unexpectedly delicious items is a side of fried brussels sprouts laced with queso fresco—maybe the best in town. The bi-level space is informal and festive, especially after the tequila kicks in.
