East Village

Please note: this business is now closed; keeps record of many old and closed venues. With its concrete floors, big windows and white brick, Vandaag brings the outdoors in, like a spacious patio with stylish wooden furnishings. Its austerity reflects its modern Dutch and Danish underpinnings, as does the menu, which offers dishes like bitterballen (oxtail croquettes) and hete bliksem (hot lightning), composed of crisp fingerlings, bacon, apple and stroop syrup. Here wine is spelled wijn (focusing on varietals from Austria and Germany) and beer is bier (imported from Holland, Belgium and Scandinavia). Genever (Dutch-style gin) is the foundation for many of the cocktails. At lunch look for Danish-style open-face sandwiches crowned with crisp sea bream or hen confit.
