Located in the heart of Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood, Olga Guanabara specializes in handcrafted, eco-conscious furniture made almost entirely from reclaimed wood, including pieces rescued from New York's own rivers. The store is the brainchild of Brazilian-born owners/designers Richard Velloso and Renato Yoshima. (Olga Guanabara takes its first name from Velloso's pet pooch, its second name from the native Tupi-Guarani word for the Brazilian bay and region that encompasses Rio de Janeiro.) The designers operate their studio from the space, turning out a line of elegant hardwood tables, chairs and lamps, as well as art and photography from a handful of like-minded designers from the United States, Brazil and Canada.
