New York African Film Festival
For more than 20 years, the NYAFF has been shining a light on both new and classic films from Africa and the African diaspora, through a series of screenings, panel discussions with filmmakers and critics and school programs. The festival opens on May 7 at Lincoln Center with a screening of Kenneth Gyang's comedy Confusion Na Wa, which took best picture honors at the 2013 "African Oscars" (the festival later moves to the Maysles Institute and the Brooklyn Academy of Music). Neither awarding prizes nor serving as a marketplace, the NYAFF seeks to gain a wider audience for the best in African cinema and, more broadly, to encourage an appreciation of African arts, film and culture.
