October might be the month for eerie events, but it isn't only about ghouls and ghosts—it's also famous for marquee annual activities like Archtober, a monthlong celebration of architecture and design; the New York Comic Con and Anime Festival; The Butterfly Conservatory at the American Museum of Natural History; The New Yorker Festival (with appearances by Martin Amis, Margaret Atwood, Lena Dunham and others); and many more. If you are into the spookier side of the season, you're in luck, as the City is one of the best places to celebrate Halloween. Events include Halloween in Richmond Town and Pumpkin Picking at Decker Farm in Staten Island, the various Boo at the Zoo events and the legendary Village Halloween Parade, now in its 39th year. (That's just the tip of the iceberg; for more Halloween-themed events, see our "Halloween in NYC" article.) View the full slideshow for more information on October's many happenings.
