Staten Island Ferry
Whitehall Ferry Terminal (East River and Whitehall Street), 718-815-2628, Battery Park
The Staten Island Ferry transports about 60,000 people to and from Manhattan each day, and many of those people are thirsty—thirsty for a free ride past sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty, and thirsty for $3.50 Budweiser tall boys. Scores of tourists take the boat over to Staten Island and turn right back around again. But we suggest venturing out onto dry land for a drink or five at the nearby 120 Bay Cafe. The local bar keeps bargain booze flowing with happy-hour specials like $4 house well drinks served in a pint glass, $3 Budweisers and Bud Lights and $1 off most other beers. Those prices, along with the jukebox and pool table, may make you lose track of time. But no fear—the ferry runs (and sells beer) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
