  • Broadway in the fall is like going back to school—only with jazz hands. There are new characters to meet, new songs to learn and new schedules to follow. Here are 12 shows opening this fall that we'd get back on the yellow bus for, including a few—like the Alicia Keys–produced play, Stick Fly—that have never before been seen in New York. Also count among that number cult hits like Godspell and three shows that are moving to the Theatre District after recent buzzy Off-Broadway runs: Lysistrata Jones, Venus in Fur and Other Desert Cities. As Lysistrata’s creator, Douglas Carter Beane, says, "I like to work it so that I have July and August to play with my kids in the country. When I come back to the City I'm usually buying new clothes and trying to remember what bullies to avoid." Hear, hear, Mr. Beane. Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got to get our schedule in order, lay out our theater-going outfits (sophisticated chic topped with a funky pair of glasses, if you're curious) and, of course, remember to turn off our cell phone.
