Two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone and three-time Academy Award nominee Debra Winger pair up with Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright David Mamet for what is sure to be an award-winning new play, The Anarchist. In contrast to Mamet's male-focused Glengarry Glen Ross, which also appears on Broadway this season, this new play focuses on the relationship between two women. LuPone plays a longtime prisoner with ties to a political group, and Winger, in her Broadway debut, plays a prison guard whom LuPone is trying to convince to let her out on parole. The pairing of these two powerful actresses in a life-and-death battle of wills is not to be missed.
Lyceum Theatre, 149 W. 45th St. Previews begin on November 13; opens on December 2.
