Visit St. Patrick's Cathedral
It's easy to forget with all the shenanigans, but St. Patrick's Day is actually the feast day of Ireland's patron saint and was traditionally celebrated like other holy days—by going to church. (In fact, for many years it was against the law for pubs in Ireland to be open on St. Patrick's Day.) The stately cathedral named after the man of honor is one of the City's most famous churches, and it sits right along the parade route on Fifth Avenue.
