The Fat Radish

The Fat Radish is in an improbable location, straddling the shabby-chic border of Chinatown and the Lower East Side. Owners Phil Winser and Ben Towill first founded a catering company, Silkstone, which led to The Fat Radish's opening in 2010. It is not a pub (nor a gastropub) but rather an industrial, luminously lit restaurant whose prime focus is seasonal vegetables—meat plays a supporting role. Drawing from their rural English backgrounds, Winser and Towill work closely with farmers, fishermen and natural-wine producers to get the best products on the plate and in the glass. The evolving neighborhood has responded; a mix of art dealers, young entrepreneurs and women with Kate Middleton–esque tresses fill the tables at lunch and dinner.
