  • Set the Tone
The talent and personality of a band or DJ is the difference between guests sitting at their tables, fiddling with their phones, and guests having to be dragged off the dance floor for food and cake. Manhattan City Music has been providing the soundtrack for events—including a holiday soiree at Hugh Jackman's home and a party for the Emmy Awards—for more than 15 years. The band is well-versed in songs both old and new, from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga, so they're ready for special requests from you or your guests. DJs, MCs and dancers are also on their toes, and fun giveaways and games can be incorporated into the affair.

If you want a little bit of country in the big city, give your guests The Nashville Attitude. The Staten Island–based band has opened for Travis Tritt and Lee Ann Womack and made side-stage appearances at shows headlined by Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Tim McGraw. But the four-member group has a following of its own, having performed for Country Music Association nominees at a reception held at Gracie Mansion. Opt for an acoustic set during cocktail hour and a full-on concert for the reception. Original material from The Nashville Attitude features notes of country swing, rockabilly, Southern rock and "buckle-polishing ballads," and covers include classic and modern hits.
