  • Every year, the holiday décor that takes over New York City's department store windows seems to become more luxurious and over the top, glittering in hues of gold and silver within conceptual tableaux that make traditional wreath-and-garland displays look like child's play. Normally debuting just before Thanksgiving, these seasonal spectacles have a perennial place on everyone's must-see list this time of year and are a reminder that the holiday shopping scene has been set in dramatic fashion. This year, Jay Z adds his Midas touch to the windows at Barneys, while Christmas stays classic at Macy's and noted illustrator Al Hirschfeld gets honored at Henri Bendel. So take a moment to gaze at the sparkling wonder behind the glass, and then pop inside to take care of that looming list. —Christina Parrella
