  • Brooklyn Museum
As energetic and vibrant as the borough itself, the Brooklyn Museum offers an array of programming, exhibitions and activities to suit nearly every interest. The museum's vast permanent collection and visiting exhibitions are categorized by cultures, geographic locations and time periods, making the vast space a cinch to navigate. Now through the first week of January, see Wish Tree, Yoko Ono's interactive exhibition that invites visitors to tie handwritten wishes on a tree, and Origin of the Universe, which features artist Mickalene Thomas' lush acrylic portraits of African-American women. Beginning in January, the museum will showcase a trove of its art from the Americas: Mayan sculptures, decorative quilts from the 18th century and rare sketches from John Singer Sargent and Edward Hopper are among the pieces. Long-term installations include sculptures from Auguste Rodin and papyrus excerpts from the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead. Kids will enjoy learning, too, with hands-on activities and creative programming during Target First Saturdays
