As the leading outdoor—and primarily free—concert series in New York City, SummerStage has entertained music lovers for more than 25 years. This year, the lineup in Central Park includes a tribute to Frank Sinatra (June 11), along with performances by rapper Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def, June 24), emo rockers Jimmy Eat World (August 7) and guitarist Shuggie Otis (August 11). SummerStage also hosts events in the other boroughs: in Staten Island young talent will be showcased at the Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series (July 25); the Bronx pays tribute to salsa singer Hector Lavoe on June 26; Brooklyn welcomes rappers Rakim (June 5), Big Daddy Kane (June 12) and Rob Base (June 13); and in Queens the 40th anniversary of hip-hop will be celebrated at Long Island City's 5Pointz (August 11). Other highlights this season include a free screening of hip-hop film Wild Style (now celebrating its 30th anniversary) on August 26 and puppet productions courtesy of the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.
