  • River to River Festival 
    From June 16 to July 13, Lower Manhattan hosts myriad performances, activities, art exhibitions and high-intensity entertainment. Annual events include the 12-hour Bang on a Can Marathon on June 16, and Make Music New York, where performers take over the City streets, on June 21. Another notable event, Ecstatic Summer 2013 (June 29–30), brings together some of music's best and brightest for performances at Brookfield Place. Members from acts such as Bon Iver, the National and Plastic Ono Band will perform works by Greg Saunier of Deerhoof and composers Dave Douglas and Susie Ibarra. An all-day family festival on Governors Island (July 13), a flashmob-style interactive MP3 event (July 14) and a reading of Marcel Proust's poetry (July 10) are also among the activities.
