St. George Theatre Cozy up inside Staten Island's legendary St. George Theatre this winter. Decorated in grand baroque style, the 2,800-seat venue first opened its doors on December 4, 1929, and is renowned for having hosted performances by Arthur Godfrey and Kate Smith, as well as for being the location for the battle-of-the-bands scene in School of Rock. The theater reopened in 2004 after extensive renovations and has since welcomed Art Garfunkel, Tony Bennett, the Jonas Brothers, Garrison Keillor and the Beach Boys to its stage. Upcoming performances for the entire family include The Christmas Show, Blue's Clues Live!, Pinkalicious and the American Family Theater's production of Alice in Wonderland.
