Change is in the air as fall arrives in New York City, bringing with it new festivals, exhibitions and performances. Celebrate milestones like the Brooklyn Academy of Music's 150th anniversary and The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Arms and Armor centennial. As the weather cools and the leaves begin to change colors, bask in the beauty of fall foliage at The New York Botanical Garden (home to the Holiday Train Show, come November) or head indoors for an affordable show downtown at The Public Theater. Make it a family outing with a fresh crop of shows at the New Victory Theater, among them plays, musicals and even a circus. As the school year gets into full swing, soak up some knowledge at brand-new exhibitions, including Our Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture at the American Museum of Natural History. Fall is also a season for music and dance aficionados, with Jazz at Lincoln Center entering its 25th season and the New York City Ballet honoring the monumental collaboration between George Balanchine and Igor Stravinsky. And that's just the start of this season's offerings—for more ideas, read on.
