The Queens Museum will reopen its doors on November 9 after undergoing a major expansion, doubling in size and adding new galleries, event spaces, a café and gift shop. In New York City Building Time Lapse, 2009–2013: Photographs by Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao (October 10–December 29), the Taiwanese photographer uses color images to show the gradual transformation of the museum, examining a variety of spaces, angles and materials used to construct the current structure. The exhibition also looks into the past, detailing the institution’s participation in the World's Fairs of 1939 and 1964 and its role as the site of the United Nations General Assembly from 1946 to 1950. And Peter Schumann: The Shatterer (October 2013–March 2014) exhibits the work of the founder and director of Bread and Puppet Theater. Two gallery installations feature paintings, papier-mâché and drawings, along with books and kinetic machines used to bring Schumann's oversized puppets to life. The artist is also set to present solo performances at the museum, staged inside a chapel constructed from papier-mâché.
