  • Brooklyn Academy of Music
Some of the world’s most innovative and avant-garde programming takes center stage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) each year, ranging in scope from film and theater to opera and comedy. Fall brings the annual Next Wave Festival (September 17–December 22), now celebrating its 31st year. The 34-event, three-venue affair surveys all aspects of the cultural institution's eclectic, experimental offerings, including Anna Nicole, an operatic story of Anna Nicole Smith's life in the limelight, and Jem Cohen's We Have an Anchor, a tribute to Cape Breton Island in Canada. Also on tap are talks, master classes and Next Wave Art, which showcases the work of Brooklyn artists.
