  • The Bronx Museum of the Arts
Specializing in contemporary art from diverse cultural backgrounds, the Bronx Museum of the Arts exhibits works in which the Bronx itself plays a central role. Admission is free. Summer highlights at the museum include Terrance Gower: Superpuesto (June 14–September 28), which showcases modernist designs for puestos, traditional Latin American market stalls. Superpuesto is one part of the larger Beyond the Supersquare exhibition, which examines 20th-century Latin American and Carribbean architecture's influence on contemporary art. Also of note: Michael Joo: Drift (Bronx)—a sculpture display that, according to the museum's official site, aspires to "help us to understand that eternity isn't some later time, nor is it a long time; rather it is that dimension of here and now which time itself obscures" by using marble from Cameron's Line, a fault that runs north from New York City.
