  • New York Transit Museum
Don't step into this historic Brooklyn Heights subway station expecting to catch a train. Rather, the New York Transit Museum celebrates the region's public transportation network and highlights all of its ins and outs—including details like subway construction equipment as well as the colors and typography of signage in the stations. Among the current shows is Anatomy of a Powerhouse: Electrifying the El, which digs into the history of the 74th Street Powerhouse—at the time an unprecedented feat of engineering that facilitated the subway system's shift to electric trains from steam engines.
