  • Shops at the Loom
    1087 Flushing Ave., 718-417-1616
Bushwick's version of a mall is housed in a renovated textile mill, with loft space above and nary a chain store in sight. At the Loom, you can get your hair cut and nails done at Tomahawk Salon, practice your downward dog at Loom Yoga Center, celebrate Shabbat at Chabad of Bushwick, gobble a cupcake while picking out a skein or taking a free knitting workshop at Brooklyn Yarn Cafe, discover a treasure at vintage-clothing store Nouveau Vieux, take yourself (or your kid) to an art class at The Living Gallery, play Scrabble over a caffeinated beverage at Kave Espresso Bar, relax in the building's mirrored courtyard or browse the goods at Better Than Jam. The latter is a co-op boutique that sells limited-edition T-shirts, dresses, babywear, handbags, jewelry and other items for the home and body, all 100% handmade, all locally crafted and some designed by the owner, Karin Persan, in her on-site studio.
