  • New York Aquarium
    602 Surf Ave., 718-265-3474
It's been a long road back from the effects of Superstorm Sandy for the aquarium—America's oldest, dating back to 1896—but the attraction continues to rebuild and will, in the coming years, even expand. Visit Glover's Reef to see stingrays, fish and eels from Belize; the outdoor Sea Cliffs display, for otters, walruses and penguins; and the popular Aquatheater, where sea lions perform impressive tricks in exchange for treats (delicious fish). The attraction is a fun opportunity for New Yorkers and visitors of all ages to get an education in marine biology; and on Fridays from 4pm (in summertime; 3pm the rest of the year) till close, admission is pay-what-you-wish.
