The Meatpacking District has several hotels worth checking into. Accommodations at the Dream Downtown feature big round windows, and the vibe throughout its 315 suites and rooms seeks to simulate the stars. A palette of white, silver, gold and bronze dominates the loftlike interiors. PH-D, its two-level penthouse bar, practically puts you into the sky, with stellar cocktails to match. Billing itself as the neighborhood's first and only luxury urban retreat, complete with a full-service spa and year-round plunge pool–cum–bar, the Hotel Gansevoort is top shelf all the way. Its Provocateur Lounge + Café specializes in the visually arresting, offering both a private 80-person balcony skybox suspended above the dance floor and a glass-enclosed garden. (The Gansevoort underwent a full-property renovation last spring, courtesy of interior designer Andi Pepper and architect Stephen B. Jacobs.) As you might suspect from the name, The Maritime Hotel employs a nautical theme throughout its 126 rooms, which are paneled in teak, illuminated with portholes and decorated to resemble very elegant cabins.
