The King of Comedy (1983) and No Way to Treat a Lady (1968) were filmed at Sardi's, but its most beloved cameo was in The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984). Kermit swans in, desperate to look debonair, and sneakily hangs his portrait in place of Liza Minnelli's. The icon just happens to stroll in and becomes chagrined to find she's been replaced by "a frog." Kermit's picture still hangs on the wall amid hundreds of other caricatures of stars. Broadway actors remain loyal to this beloved haunt, so there's lots of rubbernecking when a cast comes in to hang out after a performance. The staff is truly charming, the drinks are expert and snacks like cheese spread and crackers are free at the bar. In the dining room, the most recommended dishes are cannelloni and crab cakes.
