  • Chris Barron (lead singer of Spin Doctors; performing with Chris Barron & Friends)
    Age: 41
Where do you live? Upper West Side
What's your style of music? Exile on Main Street meets The Last Waltz.
Site of your first NYC performance: Nightingale Lounge on Second Avenue near 13th Street. It's a lounge now, but back then it was a dangerous dive bar.
Favorite venue to hear live music: The Beacon Theatre
Best band in NYC right now: I have to say my band, right?
What can we expect at your CMJ show? We'll be playing some Spin Docs faves; tunes off my current record, Pancho and the Kid; and some new tunes. And drinking a little Jack Daniels.
How did your vocal cord paralysis and recovery change you as a musician and a person? It made me realize that singing is truly a gift, as in a present that was somehow bestowed to me and could just as easily be taken away—so I'm even more careful than ever not to take it for granted.

Chris Barron & Friends play Sullivan Hall on October 21. Hear Chris' music at myspace.com/thechrisbarron.
